Wind Power
Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into a useful form, such as electricity, using windturbines. The rotating shaft of the turbine turns an alternator, which makes electricity. This electricity is transmitted through wiring down the tower to its end use. Most turbines on the market today are horizonal axis upwind machines (or HAWTs) their blades are on the windward side of the tower. The blades use engineered airfoils, matched to the alternator, that capture the wind´s energy.

TSG Technologies Inc. provides vertical-axis wind turbines (or VAWTs). These turbines spin around a vertical axis instead of the traditional horizontal axis. While the difference may sound trivial, it in fact VAWTs have a number of key improvements:

•function much better in turbulent wind (typical of rooftops in urban and suburban areas)
•can be mounted directly on a rooftop, doing away with the tower and associated guy lines
•spin at slower speeds than horizontal turbines, decreasing the risk of injuring birds and also decreasing noise levels

•start producing power at slower wind speeds than horizontal turbines
•perform equally well regardless of wind direction.
A steep roof or an increase in the wind turbine’s sail area can make up for poor wind conditions in most cases.

The rotating turbine shaft is supported by magnetic levitation instead of ball bearings. Magnetic bearings have been used for smaller turbines and pumps, but they generally can't handle impacts disturbing the shaft, and generally require actively controlled electromagnets. Making magnetic bearings strong enough to handle the loads of a wind turbine.
